Mental Training for Fencing (all disciplines, Foil, Epee & Saber)
The Mental Game of Fencing devoted to helping fencers reach their potential. It will also teach them to enjoy practice and the events they compete in more. I want to help them use their passion to bring out the best in their efforts to succeed and enjoy their sport.
I first taught fencing in college in 1977. I was the Coaching Director at the Washington Fencing Academy. I currently have a young fencer who won both Cadet and Juniors at the recent Junior Olympics.
My approach as always is on both the cognitive and unconscious level, it revolves around what you say to yourself while competing. It’s a solid approach. I augment cognitive behavioral therapy (education) with imagery and other protocols. My focus is often on increasing self awareness through emotional intelligence and helping fencers understand their unconscious mind and the role it plays in success or failure during their event. Add metal toughness as your strongest competitive weapon today.
The Competitive Fencer
This is an intense program with focus on emotional intelligence. Often the spotlight is on stress management and/ or confidence building. At The Mental Game we will cover all aspects of sport psychology for fencing performance, so the individual learns to control mind and body. The Mental Game has a program for all levels of competitive fencing.
